Snap fasteners eliminate the need for buttonholes. These fasteners include an attaching unit and a closure unit and can be decorative on clothing. Snap buttons are usually placed on blouses, blue jeans, dress pants or purses to fasten and secure the clothing item or purse. However, if you have a loose snap button due to loose threads on your clothing, purse or wallet, you can sew it back to the fabric in no time. This article mainly introduces how to fix a loose snap button.
There are two types of snap buttons: spring snap buttons and ring snap buttons. Ring snaps are probably the ones you’re most likely to encounter at your neighborhood fabric store, and while they are good for heavy duty applications, they simply don’t look well when installed. When possible, go for the spring snaps. They are a little gentler on fabric, and look great from all sides when installed, giving that professional, ready-to-wear look we’re all after.
All necessary supplies must be collected before the loose metal snap button can be repaired. In order to fix your snap button, you will need a pencil, straight needle, sewing needle, thread and sewing scissors. After collecting all the materials, you can start to fix the buttons.
Step 1
Remove the loose wires around the top and bottom snap buttons. Use a pencil to mark the original positions of the top and bottom buttons, and then align the clothe buttons.
Step 2
Thread the double needle and tie the knot. Pass the pin through the fabric that creates the mark for the top snap. Put the bottom of the top buckle down into the pin. The snap button on the top has a hole in the middle of the button.
Step 3
Process the needle from the outside and sew the thread between the holes and near the top snap. Push the needle into a small amount of fabric and then pass through the hole in the snap button. Sew two needles for each hole and line them around the button until the needle is completed.
Step 4
Remove the pin to continue around the small snap button. Tie a knot near the button and tie a needle under the button to hide the knot. Cut the thread. Repeat the process for the snap button at the bottom.
Anything larger or smaller will appear clumsy on the coat. It is recommended to buy our snap kits, which have spring snaps in various finishes and sizes, and also have different tools for installing them. If you are buying snaps from a store, make sure that at least one set includes the hand tool you’ll need. Once you have the proper sized tool, you can purchase packages of snaps without it.
