How Is Nylon Zipper Made?

Although nylon zippers are small in size, they play an important role. Nowadays, plastic zippers are widely used in people's lives. You can see zippers in backpacks, clothes and many other places. Although zipper seems to be a tool with simple structure, the production of zipper involves more than ten professional fields, such as chemical industry, machinery, house, printing and dyeing, metallurgy, electronic engineering, automatic control and so on. It is a work with high professional and technical requirements. In addition, the difficulty of zipper production is also reflected in the complex manufacturing process, large batch, variety and high manufacturing accuracy. 

So far, there are more than 20000 zipper related patents in seven countries (Australia, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Russia and the United States) and two organizations (the European Patent Organization and the World Intellectual Property Organization). Therefore, some people think that the production of delicate zipper is a kind of precision manufacturing, which is one of the outstanding representatives of human wisdom. 

Nowadays, with the continuous emergence of new technology and new equipment, the production process of zipper is also constantly changing. The following content introduces the current conventional manufacturing process of nylon long chain zipper.

The Manufacturing Process of Nylon Zipper

Generally speaking, the manufacturing process of nylon zippers can be divided into four stages: former processing, dyeing and tidying, slider manufacturing and finished product processing. 

The Former Processing

In this stage, raw materials will be processed into semi-finished zippers. The polyester monofilament and central thread are wound into a spiral tooth chain. The polyester filament is then woven into tape of the zipper. Finally, the teeth chain and the tape of the zipper are sewn together. 

Dyeing and Tidying

At this stage, white semi-finished zippers will be dyed in various colors. The white zipper chain will be evenly wound on the dye drum by the winding machine. Then, the white nylon zipper chain will be put into the dye vat and dyed in the environment of high temperature and pressure. After dyeing, the colorful zipper chain needs to be neatened and ironed to make it smooth. In addition, ironing can also make the dye more firmly fixed on the zipper, making it not easy to change color or fade. 

Slider Manufacturing

The zipper slider is a part that slides on a zipper chain. The quality of the slider will directly affect people's experience when using nylon jogger zippers. Therefore, the requirement of production precision is very high. The production process of fancy zipper slider can be divided into three stages, namely die casting of slider parts, assembly of slider parts and surface treatment of the assembled slider. 

Finished Product Processing

Colorful zipper chain, ring zipper slider, stopper and other accessories will be assembled in this step to form the finished zippers. During assembly, these parts can be assembled together according to customer's requirements. The finished zipper can be divided into open end zipper and closed end zipper. The open end zippers are generally used for jackets, coats and other clothing, while closed end zippers are generally used for handbags, shoes and other items.
